Ingredients
1 lb spaghetti noodles
Cooking Spray
Salt & pepper
1 tsp basil
1 tsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion
2 garlic cloves or minced garlic
1 lb ground beef
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
Garlic bread of your choice (optional)
Directions
STEP ONE
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cook the spaghetti according to the instructions on the packaging.
While spaghetti cooks, prep the onions and garlic by chopping them into the desired size.
Drain spaghetti, toss with olive oil, and set aside.
STEP TWO
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes, depending on their size.
Add beef and Italian seasoning to the skillet, and cook until the meat is no longer pink and evenly chopped.
Drain excess oil.
Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and basil.
Bring to a simmer and continue to cook, covered, but stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes.
Season as you like with salt and pepper.
Transfer the noodles you prepared earlier to the pan and mix.
STEP THREE
Spray your baking dish.
Transfer the meat and noodle mixture to the baking dish.
Top with cheese.
Bake until the cheese is melted and the pasta is warmed about 20 minutes.
Serve with the garlic bread of your choice.
Tips-n-Tricks
If you're looking for a time-saving method for this recipe, try using a jar of your favorite marinara sauce instead of crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
If you are using crushed tomatoes but aren’t a fan of tomatoes, blend them first to get the flavor without the texture.
Looking for a healthier version? Use ground turkey and gluten-free pasta.
Tossing the noodles with olive oil right after rinsing will keep them from getting too sticky while they cool.
